The short answer

On 15 October 2026 Mastercard and BVNK launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform: one API for accounts that hold money and stablecoins side by side, real-time conversion, cards that spend stablecoin balances in 130+ countries, and payouts to local bank accounts. It is sold to banks, fintechs and large companies, not to small businesses. Most companies will meet it inside a payment provider, payroll app or card programme they already use.

  • 130+ countries where stablecoin-linked cards can be issued (Mastercard, 15 October 2026).
  • 73 days between Mastercard completing its purchase of BVNK (3 August 2026) and the launch.
  • 11 of 232 business account providers on Finzil name stablecoins in their own services (October 2026).

What Mastercard and BVNK launched

BVNK is a UK and Malta e-money institution that joins bank payments with stablecoin settlement. Mastercard completed its acquisition on 3 August 2026, and this is the first product the two have built together. The facts, from the two companies' announcements:

Item Detail
Launched 15 October 2026, available now through BVNK
Global money account Money and stablecoins in one account, with real-time conversion and rewards on eligible balances. Custodial and self-custodial options
Cards Virtual cards issued in 130+ countries, spending stablecoin balances wherever Mastercard is accepted
Payouts Through Mastercard Move, which reaches more than 17 billion endpoints. Coverage due to expand to 40+ currencies across 200+ countries and territories in 2027
Networks and coins 20+ blockchain networks, including Stellar, Arc, Monad, Plasma and Tempo; stablecoins including USDC and OUSD
First integrators Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Bolt Group and Almond FinTech
Coming later Support for payments made by AI agents, and tokenised bank deposits

The companies cite a BCG estimate that stablecoin payments for goods and services already run at $350 billion or more a year.

Who can use it

Not most businesses, directly. BVNK's own accounts are for companies moving $500,000 or more a month, with prices by quote. The platform is built to be embedded: a payment company, payroll platform or bank puts it inside its own product, under its own brand.

That makes the first integrators the useful part of the list. Nuvei processes card payments for merchants. Marqeta runs card programmes for fintechs. Ontop pays contractors in Latin America and elsewhere. So the first people to touch the platform are likely to be a merchant paid out in stablecoins, a contractor whose pay lands in a stablecoin balance, or a fintech's customer with a new card.

BVNK already sits behind some names on Finzil. Corpay added stablecoin wallets with BVNK in May 2026, Worldpay began stablecoin payouts with BVNK in May 2025, and BVNK powers stablecoin payments for Equals Money, according to BVNK's announcements.

It is the same pattern as Noah, which we covered when Noah got two EU licences in one day: the stablecoin company stays out of sight, and the account you see belongs to someone else. Of the six infrastructure companies with a page on Finzil, five list stablecoins among the products they sell to other firms: Noah, Rain, Column, Banking Circle and ClearBank. Only Currencycloud does not.

Why the card matters more than it looks

A stablecoin card is an off-ramp in disguise. When a cardholder pays, the stablecoin is converted and the merchant is paid in local money through Mastercard's normal settlement. The merchant's bank never sees a crypto transfer. Payouts through Mastercard Move work the same way: the recipient's bank receives a local payment, not a transfer from an exchange.

That matters because of where stablecoin money usually gets stuck. Of the 120 providers on Finzil that publish a list of industries they refuse, 77 name crypto in some form (64%). When we wrote about Circle's push into 40 new markets, the problem was the last step: getting USDC into an account that pays salaries and tax, without a review.

Our view: for the businesses we work with, the payout half of this launch is the bigger news. If stablecoin money arrives as an ordinary card-network payment, fewer banks will treat it as a crypto flow. The questions don't disappear. They move to the platform that does the conversion, which still has to check who you are and where the money came from.

Two cautions. A stablecoin balance is not a bank deposit or e-money: BVNK's own terms say crypto assets in custody are not covered by any compensation scheme, and our guide to e-money safeguarding explains what is and isn't protected. And payout coverage is still growing: the 40+ currency figure is a 2027 target, not today's.

Both card networks are now in

Mastercard isn't alone. BVNK has powered stablecoin payments for Visa Direct since January 2026, before Mastercard bought it. Rain issues stablecoin-funded cards that work wherever Visa and Mastercard are accepted, for clients including MoneyGram and Western Union. Circle, the issuer of USDC, holds a US federal bank charter and is expanding into about 40 markets.

So both ends of the stablecoin payment are being wired into the systems businesses already use: the card at the till, the payout into a bank account. The part that hasn't caught up is in the middle, the business account that has to receive, hold and explain the money.

Who handles stablecoins on Finzil today

These 11 providers name stablecoins in their own published services, from the 232 profiles on Finzil checked in October 2026.

Provider Licensed in What it publishes
BVNK UK, Malta Accounts joining bank payments and stablecoin settlement in USD, EUR and GBP, for $500,000+ a month. Owned by Mastercard
Clear Junction UK, Canada, Poland USDC and USDT next to 15 currencies, for financial companies and licensed digital-asset firms
FV Bank Puerto Rico Stablecoin deposits in USDC, PYUSD and USDT converted to dollars. Business Plus costs $200 a month
Monerium Iceland A euro IBAN in the company's name linked to a wallet, paid out as EURe tokens
Bancoli United States US account details whose incoming payments convert 1:1 into dollar stablecoins in the company's own wallet. Not FDIC-insured
Damisa Canada, Australia Multi-currency accounts and virtual IBANs with payouts in 55 currencies over stablecoin rails, for mid-sized and large companies
Mesta United States Named USD, EUR, GBP and MXN accounts with stablecoin on- and off-ramps, sold mainly to payment firms
Ibanera United States US dollar accounts with crypto conversion, mostly used by API
Inxy Canada Crypto and stablecoin acceptance settled in euros or dollars. No account details of its own
Jetonbank Dominica USDT among the account's currencies. No deposit compensation scheme
Kea Canada Stablecoin acceptance and on/off-ramp. Not taking new customers while FINTRAC reviews its provider

The pattern from our Circle article holds. Most options are built for financial firms or large volumes, and those open to smaller companies are often licensed outside the EU and UK, with no deposit protection. Slash, a US business account, offers foreign companies a stablecoin account rather than a bank account.

What to do

  1. Ask your current providers. If you use Corpay, Worldpay, Equals Money, a card programme or a contractor-payments app, ask whether stablecoin payouts or cards are coming, and which company does the conversion.
  2. Know which licence holds a stablecoin balance. Stablecoins in custody are not covered by deposit insurance or e-money safeguarding. Keep only what you need to spend in that form.
  3. Keep the record of every conversion. Wallet address, transaction hash, the platform's statement and the bank payment that followed. A card-network payout is easier to explain, but source-of-funds reviews still ask.
  4. Declare stablecoin income when you apply. Describe what the company sells first, then how stablecoins touch it. Our crypto and MiCA guide shows how providers' crypto rules read, and who providers refuse has the full numbers.
  5. Keep a second account. If the account that receives conversions is reviewed, a second one keeps suppliers and salaries paid. Account closed: a 7-day plan covers the first week.
