Banking infrastructure

Column

Column is a US national bank built for developers, not for businesses directly. Fintechs such as Mercury, Brex and Slash use its API to open FDIC-insured accounts for their customers, move dollars on every US rail and pay abroad.

For your business

Your US account may be a Column account.

Mercury, Brex, Slash and Aspire's US accounts are held at Column N.A. Three things to check:

  • One FDIC limit per bank

FDIC insurance covers up to $250,000 per depositor at Column, counted once across every app that holds your money there. Some apps spread larger balances across partner banks.

  • The app is not the bank

Mercury, Brex and Slash are financial technology companies. The deposit is Column's, so read the app's terms for who holds what.

  • Keep a second account

Two apps on the same partner can fail together. A second account issued by a different institution keeps salaries and suppliers paid.

FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Can my company open an account with Column?

Not as an ordinary business account. Column sells to companies building financial products, which open accounts for their own customers through its API. A business uses Column through an account built on it, such as Mercury, Brex or Slash.

Is Column a bank?

Yes. Column National Association is a US national bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (charter 24626) and a member of the FDIC (certificate 58224).

Are deposits at Column FDIC-insured?

Yes, up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank. Money you hold at Column through different apps counts towards the same limit.
