SamCart

SamCart is a checkout and sales-page builder for courses, digital products, coaching and subscriptions, with upsells and order bumps. Sales go into a Stripe account it sets up for you (SamPay) or your own Stripe or PayPal. It can calculate tax in five regions; filing stays with you.

Tax and VAT

SamCart adds the tax. Filing it is yours.

SamCart can calculate and add sales tax or VAT at checkout for the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and the EU, region by region as you choose, and gives you a report by jurisdiction for filing. It is not the merchant of record: registering, filing and paying the tax stay with you.

  • Tax works only in those five regions.
  • You add your sales tax, VAT or GST ID per region if you want it on invoices.
  • US tax categories set reduced rates; they do not apply to VAT.
  • The tax feature costs 0.5% (Core) or 0.35% (Pro) of taxed orders.

Card payments and payouts run through Stripe.

Your account

SamCart's money sits in Stripe.

Whether you use SamPay or your own Stripe account, Stripe holds the balance and pays it to your bank. So the choices are Stripe's:

  • A business in a Stripe country

SamPay works only where Stripe opens accounts, so the business needs to be registered in one of Stripe's countries.

  • A bank account in that country

Stripe pays out to a bank account in the account's country, in the currencies it supports there.

  • Register for VAT where you sell

SamCart only adds the tax; as the seller you register and file in each country you charge it in.

FAQ

Your questions, answered.

How much does SamCart cost?

Core costs $79 a month and Pro $199 a month, 25% less when paid yearly. SamCart takes no share of sales. SamPay card processing is 2.9% + 30¢, and the tax feature adds 0.5% (Core) or 0.35% (Pro) of taxed orders.

Does SamCart handle VAT?

It calculates and adds sales tax and VAT in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and the EU, and reports it by jurisdiction. It does not file or pay it: you are the seller.

What is SamPay?

SamCart's built-in payment option: a new Stripe account created and managed through SamCart. Stripe pays your sales out to your bank, and processing costs the same as Stripe's standard rate.
