Tax and VAT

Podia adds the tax. Registering for it is your job.

Podia calculates and adds sales tax at checkout only for the jurisdictions you have registered in and entered a tax ID for. Buyers elsewhere are charged no tax. Podia is not the merchant of record, so filing and paying VAT or sales tax stays with you.

  • You add each jurisdiction yourself, with a valid tax ID for each one.
  • Business buyers can enter their tax ID for a reverse charge, and the rate is set to 0%.
  • Prices can include tax or have it added on top, for the whole site.
  • Selling digital products to EU or UK consumers usually means registering for VAT there, often through the EU's One Stop Shop.

Your account

With Podia, your Stripe account is your till.

Sales land in your own Stripe or PayPal balance, and from there go to the bank account you choose. Three things to set up first:

  • Stripe needs a business in its country

Stripe opens accounts for businesses in the countries it supports, and pays out to a bank account in that country's currencies.

  • Register for VAT where you sell

Because Podia is not the merchant of record, EU and UK VAT on digital sales to consumers is yours to register for, charge and file.

  • Shaker removes the 5%

Mover takes 5% of every sale. From about $840 a month in sales, Shaker ($84, no fee) costs less.

It does not hold your money. Each sale goes straight into your Stripe or PayPal account, and you withdraw it to your bank from there.

Can I use Payoneer with Podia?

No. Podia supports only Stripe and PayPal, and says it cannot process payments through Payoneer, Klarna, SEPA debit or Razorpay.
