Tax and VAT

You are the seller, so the VAT is yours.

Sellfy says plainly that it is not the merchant of record: you are, on every sale. It identifies the buyer's location, charges the right EU or UK VAT rate when you turn tax collection on, and gives you a quarterly report for your VAT return. Registering, filing and paying stay with you.

  • Outside the EU, you register for the EU's non-Union VAT scheme and with HMRC for UK VAT.
  • Inside the EU, you register for the One Stop Shop and with HMRC for UK sales.
  • You can block sales to the EU or UK instead.
  • Your own name appears on the buyer's statement and invoice.

Your account

With Sellfy, the money is in Stripe or PayPal at once.

No payout schedule and no holdback: each sale lands in your own payment account. What happens next depends on that account:

  • Match store and account currencies

If your store sells in EUR but your Stripe account pays out only in GBP, Stripe converts each payout. Check which currencies your account can hold.

  • Plan by annual sales

Plans cap your yearly sales: Starter stops at $10,000. Above $200,000 Sellfy asks you to contact it.

  • Budget for VAT filing

As your own merchant of record, you need EU and UK VAT registrations once you sell digital products to consumers there.
